In a domestic city, they are already preparing to withdraw free parking from green license plate hybrids.
Since the introduction of the green license plate in 2016, it has been regularly suggested that rechargeable hybrids should be deprived of the discount on free parking. As early as the beginning of 2020, the idea arose in Pécs that only purely electric models could park in the city center free of charge within green license plates, and then - perhaps due to the national free parking introduced due to the corona virus - the proposal sank, wrote Villanyautosok.hu.
Now, however, the idea has reappeared: according to a draft, only vehicles with an electric license plate will be free to park in the future. Exemption will be conditional on pre-registration with the operator
If other cities followed the example of Pécs, the green license plate could lose its only practical use, according to which parking guards can easily determine whether a given car is entitled to free parking. Additional benefits related to the green license plate, such as the company car tax and car tax exemption, do not require visual distinction, they are imposed on the basis of the registration regardless of the color of the license plate.
The obligation to register, especially if it cannot be solved online, will be a serious difficulty for motorists. Local electricians who take advantage of the discount will probably have to re-register every year, and those traveling to Pécs from other regions of the country will find it difficult to register, so most of them will probably pay the parking fee.
