After 6 years and 20,500 units, production of the BMW i8 ends in Leipzig, each of the last pieces being special.
In 2009, BMW introduced the concept of the flagship model of its new electric sub-brand, Vision EfficientDynamics. The boldly sporty car was then loaded with a 1.5-liter, three-cylinder diesel engine, supplemented by two electric motors totaling 140 horsepower. With this, it was able to accelerate to 100 seconds at 100 with a top speed of 250 km / h.
Vision EfficientDynamics has promised an average consumption of 3.76 liters / 100 km. The glass surfaces are made of polycarbonate and the vase is made of lightweight aluminum.
Two years later, in 2011, the closer-to-reality i8 study car was introduced, which already had a 1.5-liter petrol engine, as it eventually got into the production car - with an overall power output of 374 horsepower and 570 Nm of system torque from its 2018 update. Of this, the 1.5-liter three-cylinder turbocharged engine, coded B38A15T0, is powered by 231 horsepower and 320 Nm of torque.
While the internal combustion engine drives the rear wheel, the 143-horse electric motor is the first. It has an acceleration of 4.6 seconds and a top speed of 250 km / h. It was available in Coupé and Roadster designs. Sure, it just was. Because the production of the i8 ended after 20,500 units (from 2014) with a unique Portimao blue metallic i8 Roadster. The last 18 pieces were also made by BMW specifically at the individual request of BMW i8 Club members.
