It was announced on Friday that the changes initiated by the Ministry of Innovation and Technology (ITM) will, among other things, make it possible to filter out taxi drivers with a criminal record in order to clean up the market and protect passengers, MTI writes.
The amendment is expected to reduce the number of offenses committed to the detriment of passengers, improve the social perception of the taxi profession and improve the quality of services.
The amendment has full sectoral support, and the introduction of the requirement of a criminal record into law is considered necessary and advocated by taxi interest groups in addition to the authorities. The measure can also help tourists arriving in Hungary from abroad not to get their first impressions of Hungary from taxi ranks operating in the vicinity of airports and main railway stations, the ministry announced.
