Due to more than expected interest, Hyundai will also produce Kona Electric in its Czech plant.
Hyundai expects to sell 80,000 pure electric cars (Kona, Ioniq and Nexo) in Europe on an annual basis - if realized, they could be the largest of the continent's zero-emission fleets.
Kona Electric was originally made only in Ulsan (South Korea), but there is such a demand for the model in European markets, says Hyundai that the electric car will also be introduced in Czech production lines. In addition, more cars are brought to Europe from the Korean plant.
The 204-horsepower front-wheel-drive Kona Electric has a range of approximately 450 kilometers. This applies to the 64 kWh battery pack version; the model also has a cheaper, 39 kWh, 136 hp version.
The idea of manufacturing Kona Electric in Nošovice was raised last summer, but Hyundai did not confirm the news at the time.
