Magyar Koncessziós Infrastructura Fejlsztó (MKIF) Zrt. asked motorists to protect workers on highways and expressways, after five highway engineering vehicles were involved in an accident since mid-September: two of their workers were injured and three of their vehicles were totaled.
In a statement sent to MTI on Tuesday, the company highlighted: there was a case where a vehicle drove without braking into a traffic police car that was constantly using its headlights, but it regularly happens that motorists do not leave enough distance to the vehicles performing the work and to their colleagues.
According to the information, the most recent such accident happened early Tuesday morning: a pickup truck drove into the traffic control car of the Gödöllő highway engineering department on the M3 highway from behind, without braking. A worker was injured and is being treated at the Hatvan hospital; the car was totaled.
On Friday, in the stop lane of the M1 highway, the left rear-view mirror of a car participating in the diversion was swept away by a truck, and another truck pulled the side of the car, they added.
MKIF Zrt. emphasized that their colleagues on highways and expressways work to ensure that traffic is smooth and trouble-free. Their work is important, but at the same time dangerous, so road users were asked to take care of them.
