U.S.-based General Motors plans to resume production of Chevrolet Bolt electric vehicles in early April, and will begin shipping to car dealers shortly thereafter.
Last summer, the company had to suspend production of these cars because of a manufacturing defect in the batteries because they could have caused a fire, The Wall Street Journal reported. At the end of July, GM also announced that it would recall all 142,000 Chevrolet Bolt electric vehicles manufactured in the past five years.
In September, GM had already reported that South Korean battery maker LG Chem had corrected the bug and began shipping new batteries to dealerships to replace the old ones in all 142,000 electric cars.
GM knows about 13 battery fires.
