Ineos Grenadier, the latest player in the market for large off-road vehicles with a classic design, is getting closer and closer to realization. Now the prospective dashboard has been shown and we can’t help but be amazed.
It’s as if the Humvee military SUV has stood as a model for the interface that will soon be introduced in the British-developed Ineos Grenadier hard-line SUV.
With the entry of Ineos Grenadier, available this autumn, a dream born four years ago will come true: Founded as a subsidiary of the chemical giant of the same name, Ineos Automotive was created to combine the suitability of unstoppable, hardcore SUVs with the comfort and safety of modern cars. It compares itself to big-name opponents like the Mercedes G-Class, Land Rover Defender, Jeep Wrangler or Toyota Land Cruiser.
Grenadier is Ineos' first and so far no officially unveiled product, named after the inn where the whole idea was conceived in the mind of owner Jim Ratcliffe. The company has now unveiled the future cabin of this Grenadier.
The chief designer admitted that modern aircraft, ships and tractors served as inspiration for the interior design. The guiding principle was functionality: they wanted to create a logically, instinctively manageable dashboard. The toggle switches and control dials were placed quite far apart so that one would not touch it on hard terrain, all functions were clearly marked. Moreover, the control switches of the additional technology that can be installed later (winches, external lighting, etc.) have also been built in and pre-wired.
Of course, that doesn’t mean the Grenadier won’t get a touch screen: Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration is also possible via the 12.3-inch monitor, so navigation tasks have been left to the smartphone, as well as a host of other fun features. However, the car itself has received smart features such as a trail recorder that allows users to return to civilization by following their own route after a serious off-road adventure. If you don't want to bother with the touch screen, you can also control the functions via a scroll wheel.
