Car production in Romania increased by 21 percent last year compared to 2021, the number of manufactured vehicles exceeded half a million, the Association of Romanian Car Manufacturers announced on Monday.
Dacia, owned by French Renault, produced 22,593 vehicles at its Mioveni plant in December 2022, and 314,228 cars throughout the year.
In December, 13,337 cars rolled off the production lines at the Ford Romania car factory in Craiova, owned by the Turkish-American joint venture Otosan, and 195,237 cars rolled off the production lines during the whole of last year.
The 509,465 cars produced in Romania last year represent a 16.3 percent increase in 2020 and a 3.9 percent increase compared to the previous peak production in 2019. The Romanian car industry has thus far managed to overcome the crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic and the shortage of semiconductors.
