In the first half of the year, the sale of new passenger cars fell by 12.3 percent to 98,916 in the Czech Republic, the decrease was particularly significant in the second quarter, the Czech Automobile Industry Association said in a statement on Friday.
The decrease is basically due to the problems of the car factories, the demand is still greater than the supply.
"Production problems continue, parts are missing, the period of the coronavirus epidemic and the war in Ukraine greatly affected the logistics of the production and delivery processes," the association points out.
72.6 percent of the new cars sold in the first half of the year were bought by companies and institutions, the rest by private individuals.
The highest demand was for the Czech brand Skoda, of which 31,678 units were sold, which is 32 percent of all sales. Hyundai was in second place with 10.2 percent, and Volkswagen was third with 8.15 percent. Toyota's market share was 6.5 percent, and Kia's was 5.6 percent in the first six months of the year.
As for the sales of individual models, the order is as follows: Skoda Fabia 6,280 units, Skoda Octavia 6,254 units, Hyundai i30 4,433 units.
66 percent of the cars sold in the first half of the year were gasoline-powered, and 25 percent were diesel-powered. The sale of electric cars doubled on an annual basis, but still accounted for only two percent of total sales.
89,307 passenger cars were imported into the Czech Republic from abroad, which is an increase of 6.9 percent. The average age of imported cars was 10.6 years.
