Engines and Dimensions: Long ago, we could have stopped here to negotiate a small car. However, the Fabia knows more than that: its fluid resistance coefficient, for example, has dropped from the current 0.32 to a previously unknown 0.28 in the category, meaning the car will be quieter, more stable and more economical. To reduce air resistance, in addition to modern computer modeling, Fabia first installed special inserts in the wheels, thoroughly wrapped the bottom plate, and dismantled the air vortices with tiny air deflectors at several points in the body. The lamella air intake can also be used as a trump ace: when the engine does not require intensive cooling, less air is passed through the cooling radiator. This one solution alone can reduce fuel consumption by up to 0.2 l / 100km at 120 km / h.
We mentioned safety: in addition to the stronger floorboard, up to nine airbags, Isofix child seat sockets with top attachment points, and a range of electronic driver support functions have been added to the car. Adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, sign detection, dead space monitoring and parking robot are also available.
After all these modern features, Škoda could have let go of the ingenious little things that have become its trademark ‘Simply Clever’, but it didn’t: there are a total of 43 such user-friendly features on board, thirteen new ones. The rearview mirror is equipped with a charging connector, so there is no need to power the navigation system, smartphone or on-board camera from the dashboard. Rear passengers can put their phones in a separate pocket, the back of the front passenger seat can be folded down, and a storage system can be found under the hat rack.
