The Czech car factory Skoda Auto has been forced to restrict the production of new cars since the beginning of the week due to a large shortage of parts. The missing parts were manufactured at some Ukrainian plants that have now shut down as a result of the Russian military operation, Skoda Auto said on Tuesday.
According to the announcement, among other things, the production of the Enyaq iV electric car had to be restricted.
Skoda Auto's management has so far donated 10 million crowns (150 million forints) to the Czech humanitarian organization Clovek v tísni to support its operations in Ukraine.
The Russian market was the second largest for Skoda last year, with a total of 90,400 cars sold there. It is therefore expected that the sanctions against Russia will also have a negative impact on the management of the largest Czech car plant, Skoda said in a statement.
Skoda has had an assembly plant in Ukraine since 2002, where about 190,000 Skoda cars have been built so far. In Ukraine, about 6,000 Skoda cars have recently been sold each year.
Last year, Skoda delivered a total of 878,200 cars to its foreign customers, 126,600 less than the previous year. The main reason for this is the lack of chips due to the coronavirus epidemic.
