The M5 got even better

The appearance of the BMW M5 / M5 Competition pair has changed in line with the general model update of the BMW 5 Series. They redrawed the grille, front apron, air intakes, and daytime running lights. At the rear, the bumper, diffuser, luminaires have been renewed, while the thinner wall of the two exhaust ends twice suggests a more precise design. The body, rich in aluminum and carbon elements, is thrown up by black details in the case of the M5 Competition, from the grille frame to the mirror housing to the exhaust ends.

Inside, it receives the same larger 12.3-inch center screen as the base model. On the floor console, we find two new M-specific function buttons that may be familiar from the M8: one to adjust the content of the displays for sporty driving, and the other to adjust the settings for the main systems. Pressing and holding the M Mode button will switch the Competition model to race mode.

The M-buttons are also missing from the steering wheel now. M Sports Seats are standard, but a multifunctional seat is also available on request. Driver support features follow the defaults of the revamped 5 Series.

What has not changed is the engine power: the M5 delivers 600, the M5 Competition 625 horsepower, both at 6000 rpm, in both cases 750 Nm of torque peak. The M5 accelerates to 100 km / h in 3.4 seconds, 3.3 for the M5 Competition.

This is not the main difference either, but that the block is fixed less elasticly in the Competition model, so the model can be controlled more precisely. The speed of 200 km / h is reached in 11.1 and 10.8 seconds, respectively - not so long ago a supercar should have been needed for this dynamic. The top speed is 250 km / h, or 305 km / h with the restriction released.

The tuning of the all-wheel drive is left, the shock absorbers of the Competition model come from the BMW M8 Gran Coupé.
