What the future brings is not clear: the Nissan sports car manager, Hiroshi Tamura, says the Z series is as important to the brand as the GT-R, but could not confirm whether there will be a canvas-top model for the next generation of a sports car - or whether the Z series career continues at all.

No wonder the Z Roadster is canceled by Nissan. Last year, together with both car variants, only 3,500 cars were sold in the US and just under 700 in Europe - the world obviously does not need the Nissan's 10-year sports car.

For comparison, the Toyota GT86 last year had 4100 in the US, 1,300 in Europe, and 1,900 in the Mazda MX-5 in Europe, and 9,000 in North America.
