Gasoline-powered cars were sold 31.5 percent less and diesel cars 27.4 percent less; new sales of diesel-hybrid passenger cars also declined by 7.2 percent. In contrast, sales of purely electric passenger cars (BEVs) increased by 15.5 percent and the number of gasoline-hybrid cars increased by 8.4 percent. The registration of new alternative-propelled passenger cars reached a total share of 39.0 percent after 29.4 percent in 2021.
Among the top ten car brands, VolksWagen was again ranked first in February with 1,691 newly launched cars and a market share of 10.5 percent. Skoda followed closely with 1,631 cars and a market share of 10.1 percent. It was followed by Audi with 7.0 percent, BMW with 6.9 percent and Seat with 6.4 percent.
Toyota registered a 61.8 percent increase in new registrations. Kia increased sales by 34.4 percent, Audi by 16.1 percent and BMW by 5.4 percent. New car registrations for the VW brand decreased by 46.0 percent, a
44.6 percent for Ford, 40.5 percent for Seat, 29.2 percent for Renault, 24.9 percent for Mercedes and 18.8 percent for Skoda.
In February, a total of 21,000 vehicles were newly placed on the market in Austria, a decrease of 21.6 percent compared to February 2021.
