July 15, 1941 is the most important moment in the history of the Jeep brand. Although the brand name itself did not yet exist at the time, as it grew mostly out of the nickname of their first car, we still consider this to be the starting date for the Jeep. Following the award of the U.S. Army tender, the Willys-Overland Company and the U.S. Army signed a contract that day under which they became suppliers of the new light SUV.
It’s just 80 years today, and the brand is now celebrating by telling us what the future holds, how the Jeep is envisioned in a vision full of electric and electric vehicles. In a word: boldly. They stick to the traditions, but they are moving with the times, and with each of their new models, they are already giving us the opportunity to use them even purely electrically.
“We are committed to making the Jeep brand the greenest and most exciting SUV manufacturer of the future,” said Christian Meunier, CEO of Jeep, at the brand’s online press conference. which we would not necessarily have expected because of the preservation of traditions, and not only in the case of SUVs destined for the city, such as the Renegade, Compass, Cherokee, Grand Cherokee and the new Wagoneer, but also in the case of the classic Wrangler.
It’s weird to imagine that Wrangler’s customer base would be just worried about how they could protect their environment, even though they might be the ones to walk in an area where that might be especially important. In addition, the Jeep also highlights important features for them, such as driving in complete silence, off-roading, so that driving in nature can be taken to a whole new level, and we won’t even have to give up the well-proven Wrangler.
The Wrangler 4Xe is currently getting a plug-in hybrid powertrain capable of 380 horsepower and 637 Nm of system power. It features a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine as the main unit, and after the electric motor, the Wrangler’s switchable all-wheel drive also appears in the same way. Due to the electric torque and more meticulously dispensing power of the electric motor, it is able to move much more carefully in the field than conventional powertrains, which is why this Jeep sees a great future.
