The Volkswagen ID. R is the torch carrier of the company's electrical ambitions that recorded an unimaginable time in the Pikes Peak Rising Race. The former top runner Peugeot has since dropped Volkswagen's results, but the Germans have a better job than quarreling with the French: they are now preparing for the Nürburgring to get the fastest car title from the NIO EP9: the independently developed car in 6 minutes in 45.9 seconds went around the Nordschleifen.

Two-engine ID.R with 680 hp system performance has already reached its peak this summer; it is currently preparing for it.

For the time being, there is, of course, little information shared, but it has been betrayed that the huge wing seen in the Pikes Peak car is being removed from the car. Indeed, other aerodynamic characteristics will be needed on the 20-kilometer roundabout, where energy efficiency rather than downward pressure is emphasized. "Not only will the rear wing be smaller, but the first splitter as well as the bottom cover will be reworked," said François-Xavier Demaison, Technical Director of Volkswagen Motorsport. In April, alternatives to pre-computer simulations are tested in a wind tunnel, and then the racing tests of the racing car begin.

What's unchanged is the pilot: the car will be driven by the same Romain Dumas who is Pikes Peaken and who has won the Nürburgring 24 times four times so he knows the track quite well.
